Policy Statement #2
Coaches, Trainers, Handlers
Preamble:
It is recognized that the
handling of livestock and the riding of horses has some inherent risks to
people, horses and the physical plant.
Associated with these physical risks are potential risks with respect to
liability. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that paid professionals
using the facilities of ATC do not unjustifiably transfer the risks associated
with their activities to ATC or it’s owners.
This statement applies to all
those who are remunerated for their equine related services and are not
employees of ATC.
For the purpose of this
statement, the following definitions apply:
1. Trainers are those individuals paid to render
instruction to Horses
2. Coaches are those individuals paid to render equine
instruction to People.
3. Handlers are those individuals paid to care for or in
some manner manipulate horses.
4. Some individuals will engage in activities that
satisfy more than one of the previous definitions.
General Policy Statement:
All individuals who are remunerated for equine training,
coaching or handling on ATC property and who are not in the direct employ of
ATC must:
1. Provide to the management of ATC evidence of being
members in good standing of the BC Horse Council.
2. Provide to the management of ATC evidence of adequate
Coaches Insurance coverage.
3. File signed Liability Release Forms or for themselves,
students or, in the case of trainers and handlers, the horse’s owners. These forms or letters (in the case of horse
owners) must specifically absolve ATC of any liability associated with their
activities.
Additional Policies:
1. Boarders at ATC are permitted to hire coaches,
trainers or handlers who are in compliance with the prior General Policy
Statement.
2. Individuals who “trailer in” and who have paid the
pertinent fees to use ATC facilities are permitted to hire coaches, trainers or
handlers who are in compliance with the prior General Policy Statement.
